The assessment of the load bearing capacity of buildings or construction elements is then always queried if
- no constructive status documents are available or
- damage has occurred
(fire, corrosion, subsidence)

The assessment of constructions in the case of missing status documents is of interest prior to reorganisation or change of use plans in order to be able to assess the importance and the attendant extent of work.

Assessments of damaged construction elements aim at finding the causes as well as assessing the extent of repair and if necessary also to assess the remaining load bearing capacities of the elements concerned.

As damage to load-bearing constructions is as a rule evident through deformations and /or crack formations, such symptoms are frequently the object of the assessments. For the assessment of the existing building material parameters these are examined to the extent required for the respective case.
