Karlsruhe-Oberreut Waldlage (2003/4)
1396 residences and a school centre

The residential area is supplied with heating and power from a central cogeneration station. The installation of ventilation plants together with heat recovery reduces the CO2 emission by approximately one third.

Power is produced in a cogeneration station with a combustion engine and a generator. The power can be used or fed into the public grid. The waste heat from the engine can be reused to heat buildings or drinking water.
This coupling of power (energy) and heat utilises over 90% of the fuel input.
